Soul Train Flash Mob Hits Broadway
9 hours ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »
New York -- Fans of "Soul Train" boogied down Broadway wearing afro wigs and bell bottoms on Saturday while others recounted their favorite episodes at a Harlem meeting hall in tribute to the show's late creator, Don Cornelius.
About 100 dancers descended on Times Square in a "flash mob" organized through the Internet. As startled tourists looked on, they recreated one of the show's "Soul Train lines" in which people would take turns dancing toward a TV camera while showing off their most outrageous moves.
"Don Cornelius was a big influence in my life, and I just wanted to pay tribute," said disc jockey Jon Quick, as he held up a speaker blasting disco grooves. "He was playing the music that nobody else wanted to play. He was an amazing man."
Cornelius, 75, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday. He had suffered from health problems, a difficult divorce, and had »

Madonna's Halftime Performance:
36 minutes ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »
Love her or hate her, there's no doubt that only Madonna can bring a certain level of pop flair to a performance.
Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show included a medley of her hits and assistance from her younger counterparts on the pop music scene.
The singer debuted her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" during a set that also included classic hits "Vogue," "Music," "Express Yourself" and "Like a Prayer."
During "Music," the singer appeared to slip on the stage, but quickly recovered (see video above).
Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., Lmfao, and Cee Lo Green (and his marching band) joined Madonna for the pop icon's first Super Bowl appearance. M.I.A. flashed the camera her middle finger during "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" a move censors didn't seem to catch.

Madonna did not disappoint.
The 53-year-old legend took the biggest stage in the world, the 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show, and brought the house down. She dressed to impress, sporting a gold headdress, black thigh-high boots, a youthful pleated miniskirt, a black sequined robe and gold cheerleader pom-poms (not all at once, of course).
We died, obviously, to see that the opening number was "Vogue," featuring dozens of Vogue covers lit up across the stage.
Appropriately, Madonna didn't skimp on the high fashion, trotting around the multi-level stage in Givenchy Couture and Bulgari with little helpers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj wearing Erickson Beamon headpieces. Her black liquid eyeliner looks flawless and her blonde waves were perfectly in place.
But despite Madonna was her old self: turning cartwheels, showing off her bejeweled panties, writhing on the ground before Cee-Lo Green (in head-to-toe black sequins, natch) and making us all forget »

McAdams Impressed With Clean Canadian Water
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Rachel McAdams is planning to return to the lake where she shot scenes for new romantic drama The Vow in Toronto this summer - because she's convinced it's one of the cleanest water spots in North America.
The actress stripped down to her underwear for swimming scenes and was pleasantly surprised to find the water warm and clean.
And now McAdams can't wait to go back.
She tells WENN, "I thought I was going to get pink eye and it would be so cold and I'll cut myself on shards of glass in the water. I just thought it would be a nightmare. It turns out the water was so lovely; it was like bath water.
"They even tested the water and it was so clean. They cleaned it out the best they could because they didn't want us to fall and there'd be a shard of glass or something, so they laid down carpet. I don't remember the last time you could swim in Toronto waters... I'm very excited about for next summer!" »
Singing Teacher Helped Awful Rickman Hit The High Notes For Sweeney Todd
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Harry Potter star Alan Rickman has his voice teacher to thank for his success in the Sweeney Todd movie musical - because he was told he sounded like he was singing through a drain pipe at drama school.
The actor didn't take after his mother, who was a celebrated soprano, and instead grew up being told he'd never make it as a singer in any capacity.
He says, "Thank God for a singing teacher is all I could say. My mother was a phenomenal singer; she was a pure soprano... (but) sadly when I was in drama school my voice was the source of many complaints and big problems.
"A lot of it is just to do with the architecture of your mouth, the sound you make. Then it's about the muscle strength in your tongue. The complaints were that I had very lazy diction and a spastic soft palette and my voice teacher said my voice sounded as if it was coming out of the back end of the drain pipe.
"That's how cruel drama school is and I had to learn to bring it all forward." »

Sheen Stunned To Find Great-great-great-great Grandfather Was Beneath Him All The Time
1 hour ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »
Actor Martin Sheen was horrified to find he had been trampling all over a famous ancestor for years during visits to Europe.
The former West Wing star discovered his family faux pas while tracing his roots for U.S. TV show Who Do You Think You Are? in Tui, Spain, where his father's family comes from.
He tells WENN, "The village is, like, 1,200 years old and there is a cathedral there that is a place that I have visited many times since 1969 when I made my first trip to Spain to visit my father's community.
"I only learned during this last trip with Who Do You Think You Are? that my great, great, great, great grandfather is buried in the cathedral there and that there was a very strong connection to my heritage from that man's life and family. I never knew that.
"In fact I used to walk over his grave and, you know, his burial spot in the cathedral; everybody did. You are just walking along. On the show they showed me where it was and I was made to be more aware of that and that was an astonishing thing."
Sheen's family tree study opened the new season of the popular genealogy show in America on Friday night.
During the programme, Sheen discovered the brothers of his mother and father had both served time in prison for their parts in civil wars - his uncle Michael was incarcerated in Kilmainham Jail in Dublin for his part in the Irish Civil War and his father's brother Matias fought against Franco's forces in the Spanish Civil War and was imprisoned in Pamplona's San Cristobal jail. The actor visited both prisons for the show. »
Washington Recalls South African Death Threats

Denzel Washington was stunned by the freedoms he enjoyed shooting Safe House in South Africa because the last time he filmed in the country he received death threats and had to restrict his movements.
The Oscar winner filmed Cry Freedom in Zimbabwe in 1987 and was shocked by just how dangerous the nation was during Apartheid.
He tells WENN, "They told me I could come but I wasn't allowed to leave. I had heavy death threats at that time.
"There's been a tremendous amount of change... but at the same time I saw a lot of still psychological damage and there will continue to be psychological scars for years to come.
"I met a fair-skinned woman there whose mother was black and her father was Jewish and she told me her mother had to act like she was the maid to live in that neighbourhood and kept the charade up for 20 years." »
